This week in show jumping: deja vu, sexual innuendo and Katie Dinan. (Not necessarily in that order. Or at the same time.)
Here’s what you missed:
Farrington Claims the Cup. Again. For the second time this year, Kent Farrington (USA) has won the WEF Challenge Cup. (He won Round 5 with Uceko). Riding a new mount, Voyeur, he beat out 73 entries. Word is they are really, really exciting to watch.
Katie Dinan and Nougat Du Vallet were second.
Lamaze: 1. Olympics: 0. Last Thursday, Eric Lamaze (CAN) and Hunter’s Scendix won the $6,000 Spy Coast Farm 1.40m class. It was their first time…in the winner’s circle. And will undoubtedly not be the last. Hunter’s Scendix is one of six horses Lamaze has declared for Olympic consideration. But he’s not really a contender. Yet. According to last week’s press release, Lamaze is targeting the Olympics with Verdi, Luikka and Derly Chin de Muze.
Egypt in the house. Egypt’s Nayel Nassar (EGY) won the $15,000 Artisan Farms Young Rider Grand Prix. You know who was second? Katie Dinan and Sandro.
“My wife does everything.” Richard Spooner (USA) and Cristallo galloped to victory in Saturday night’s $100,000 Fidelity Investments® CSI 3* marathon Grand Prix. (There were 70 entries in the class). He won. BECAUSE HIS WIFE IS AWESOME.
“My wife [Kaylen] does everything, so I just get on him and show, which is quite strange for me because in general I do all of the work on my other horses. She has him where he’s turning left and turning right. Now I can go fast with him. He has a very difficult mouth and she has done an amazing job in getting him to relax and do his job. It’s like night and day, a different horse.”
And in second place…KATIE DINAN and Nougat Du Vallet.
Henry wins again. On Sunday, Nick Skelton (GBR) scored yet another big win on Big Star (aka, Henry) with the $32,000 Suncast® 1.50m Championship Jumper Classic. He won the class once before this year with Unique in Week 1. At the time, he said “It’s keeping it up that’s the hardest thing.” Turns out, it’s actually not. (If you’re Nick Skelton.)
Katie Dinan was not second. That ribbon went to Ben Maher (GBR) on Quiet Easy 4. Darragh Kerins (IRL) and S&L Slingback finished third.
Meanwhile in Ocala…
Double the pleasure for Tracy Fenney. For the second time this season, Tracy Fenney (USA) has won BOTH Grand Prixes in HITS Ocala. Aboard MTM Centano, she won the $25,000 SmartPak Grand Prix on Friday AND the $50,000 Strongid C 2x Grand Prix on Sunday. Fenney now leads the way in the 2012 Pfizer Million Rider Rankings.
Fenney is from Flower Mound, Texas. If you Google search Flower Mound you will find a list of Registered Sex Offenders, which is not nearly as uplifting as winning two Grand Prixs in one week.
And on the other side of the great divide…
Picking up where they left off. Duncan McFarlane (NZ) and Mr. Whoopy posted the fastest double-clear round in Thursday’s $32,000 HITS Desert Classic in Thermal. It was their second major win in as many classes. (They won the $53,000 HITS Grand Prix CSI2*-W in week 3 of Thermal.) Mr. Whoopy is a stallion. In case his name left you in doubt.
Times like this, I feel fortunate to work in print. Michelle Spadone and Uitteraard won their first Grand Prix in the $53,000 Purina Mills Grand Prix CSI2*. After just seven shows together! (She can’t pronounce his name either.)
And that is your Week 7 Wrap up.

I think you would pronounce it “outerard” but with a dutch accent! My husband ( who is dutch!) says it means “Of course”
That’s funny because when I asked Google Translate, it said: “Elena Raard” ?! Thanks for clearing that up!
Tee hee! Mr. Whoopy… Tee hee!
